History of Cornerstone Academy of the Ozarks

Cornerstone Academy of the Ozarks was envisioned in 2007 by Dr. Rebecka Spencer. It all started with a letter to Dr. James Dobson who was the president of the well-known radio broadcast 'Focus on the Family' asking for advice on how to start a Christian School. From there, we joined ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International) based in Colorado Springs, CO. We joined ACSI as Oakwood Christian Academy we attended our first Christian School Convention in Kansas City, MO where Sean McDowell was the guest speaker, where we were given the information we needed to move forward.

After conversing with several Christian School leaders at the convention where they learned our vision, mission, philosophy, and where we wanted to go with this new school, we were introduced to Larry Daugherty, superintendent of Maranatha Academy in Shawnee Mission, KS. From there, we made visits to Maranatha and spent many hours in Dr. Larry's office. With the assistance of a Christian CPA, attorney, and dedicated board members, Cornerstone Academy of the Ozarks was born.

Cornerstone Academy of the Ozarks was born in 2011 and opened in 2012 and opened with only 2 students and 2 grade levels, but God has blessed our school exponentially and we have grown every year. In 2018, we added a fully staffed middle school, and have 24 full-time students and 2 additional part-time students. How privileged we are to be united in service teaching the children whom He calls blessed!
